Lawbreaking incident - Unannounced labor investigations at "flying roofers"

"Flying roofers" caught in raids across Lower Saxony on Monday. Authorities suspect illegal work and black market activities as the driving force behind these searches. These operations were occurring not just in Osnabrück but also in other northern federal states, according to the prosecutor's office.

Charges brought against these individuals involve embezzlement. The allegations further suggest that they failed to register their employees and, consequently, neglected to contribute to the social insurance funds for roofers' trade. The term "flying roofers" refers to individuals who advertise their work through classified ads or offer their services door-to-door, as a spokesperson from the prosecutor's office explained.

While fraud investigations are usually associated with these cases when monetary crimes or unnecessary services are performed during the projects, such investigations were not a part of Monday's searches.

The prosecutor's office and customs in Osnabrück are currently investigating criminal activities in what's known as "clankriminality." This controversial term stems from the idea that it targets individuals with a migration background solely based on their family ties and origins.
