Bayern Munich Football Club - Uli Hoeness: For Kompany, going a whole season without a trophy is unacceptable
The freshly appointed Bayern Munich coach, Vincent Kompany, won't have a lengthy grace period, warns Bayern's board member, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. At a manager meeting in Bielefeld, Rummenigge told "Bild", "I wish him much success, but if you don't win a title with Bayern Munich after a year, that's already too long." Kompany was recently signed with Bayern for a three-year contract.
Rummenigge maintained a somewhat detached demeanor towards the 38-year-old Belgian, whom he had yet to meet. Sporting director Max Eberl is "convinced by this relatively young and inexperienced man," Rummenigge continued. "He embodies, I believe, the right philosophy. I spoke with Pep Guardiola, who had him as a player for a long time. He firmly believes that he's an exciting coach," added the former board chairman.
Bayern Munich's hunt for a coach caused weeks of chaos, with several coveted options, such as Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick, stepping back and even the attempt to reverse Tuchel's contract termination in February fell through. In the end, Kompany was recruited from the relegated FC Burnley.
Rummenigge: Kompany is familiar with pressure
"It's important to note that Bayern Munich plays a rather aggressive and dominant style of football. This is the philosophy he represents," Rummenigge said. Kompany also familiarized with pressure from his player days at Manchester City.
