Ukrainian leader Selensky travels to Belgium tomorrow.
During his recent tour in Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited various countries, including Belgium. While there, he was reported to meet with trainers who prepare Ukrainian pilots for F-16 combat jet operations.
Belgium has expressed its intention to give Ukraine F-16 fighter jets as part of wider initiative by European allies. The deliveries might start this year. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, Belgium has given Ukraine military aid worth roughly 1.2 billion euros, according to their statements.
Before his stop in Belgium, Zelensky was in Spain. In Madrid, he met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday. Spain has pledged one billion euros in military aid to Ukraine as part of a bilateral security agreement during Zelensky's visit. Next after Belgium, the Ukrainian President is scheduled to travel to Portugal.
Throughout his venture to these Western allies, Zelensky seeks additional assistance in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Most recently, Russian forces initiated a ground assault in the Kharkiv region on May 10, resulting in significant territorial gains after eighteen months of no substantial advancements. According to the account of regional governor Oleh Synegubov, more than 11,000 people were forced to abandon their homes and apartments due to the fighting.
