Berlin subway - U3 runs normally again after cable theft and repairs
The repairs following a cable theft on Berlin's U3 subway line have been completed sooner than planned. "The restrictions following a cable theft on the above-ground section of the line in south-west Berlin have been completed," BVG announced on Wednesday. The repair was therefore completed around a week earlier than initially forecast. "Since the afternoon, the U3 has been running again as usual, i.e. every five minutes during rush hour," the BVG said.
The restrictions on the U3 have been in place since last Friday. On the section between Breitenbachplatz and Krumme Lanke, the line only ran every 10 minutes to prevent overcrowding. According to the BVG, unknown persons had previously stolen around 140 meters of cable in the above-ground section of the U3 between the stations Freie Universität - Thielplatz and Oskar-Helene-Heim.
There have been repeated cable thefts at BVG this year. Last week, operations director Rolf Erfurt cited increased copper prices as the driver for such incidents. The perpetrators are usually professionals who know exactly which cables are live and which are not.

The theft of cables on the U3 line in Berlin has led to an increase in criminality. Despite the repairs being completed earlier than expected, the BVG has urged vigilance to prevent further cable thefts. The Berlin police are currently investigating several cases of cable thefts across the city, which have affected both public and private utilities.
