U21 world champion Sauter moves from Potsdam to Hamburg

U21 world champion Moritz Sauter is moving from second-division handball club 1. VfL Potsdam to the first division at HSV Hamburg. The 20-year-old right-handed player, who also played five times for Füchse Berlin in the HBL, signed a two-year contract in the Hanseatic city and will leave Potsdam at the end of the season, as the club from Brandenburg announced on Thursday. "I can only congratulate both of them. Moritz to a great club that has already developed many good young players. And to HSV for an absolute leading player who will make the team better," VfL coach Bob Hanning was quoted as saying in the press release about the top performer.

Sauter moved to the Füchse training center in 2016. He has had a second playing right for the club since the 2022/23 season. The 20-year-old, who is studying medical technology alongside handball, is set to take over the role of Dani Baijens in Hamburg. The Dutchman, who currently has an injury to his throwing hand, will move to Champions League club Paris Saint-Germain in France next summer.

Moritz Sauter will continue his handball career in the Bundesliga with HSV Hamburg, having played previously in Bundesliga 2 for 1. VfL Potsdam. The Bundesliga is known for developing talented young players, and Sauter is set to join this tradition.
