The kickoff for the Bavarian youth football tournament "Champions Cup Bayern" has begun. Bavaria's Sports Minister Joachim Herrmann and President Christoph Kern of the Bavarian Football Association, in addition to referee Felix Brych as Munich's EURO ambassador and U16 national player Noah Keller from 1. FC Nuremberg, were present at TV 1848 Erlangen.

During the next four weeks, more than 1,000 teams and therefore over 15,000 boys and girls will accompany the EURO in their own country, adding excitement to close to 6,000 matches in over 250 groups. As stated on Sunday, it is the largest U13 club tournament in Europe.

Interior Minister Herrmann: Encourage interest in football

"It's crucial that we're not just rooting for our national team at the EURO, but also focus on youth football in Bavaria and maybe even spark curiosity in children who haven't played in a club yet," Herrmann said.

Four teams will play in each location across four weekend matchdays until June 30, competing for promotion to the top division. Additionally, any team that scores more than three goals is given an additional point, regardless of the game's outcome.

"Our version of a mini-EURO"

"A week before the EURO's opening match between Germany and Scotland in Munich, we started our 'Champions Cup Bayern' at TV 1848 Erlangen to let the boys and girls have fun and play in a unique, open tournament format," BFV President Kern stated. "Obviously, we want to contribute to ensuring that the EURO also reaches our clubs."
