Emergency - Two-year-old child remains missing without a trace: Big search
These are anxious hours: Since Sunday evening, a two-year-old child has disappeared without a trace in Bingen near Sigmaringen at the foot of the Swabian Alb. Emergency services searched feverishly for the girl well into the night, and divers, boats and drones with a thermal imaging camera were also deployed - to no avail. The toddler was not found at first, a police spokeswoman said on Monday morning. The search operation has since been continued.
Among other things, the police are considering whether to use a police helicopter in the search. This was reportedly not possible on Sunday evening due to the weather. They will "pull out all the stops" to find the toddler, and divers and sniffer dogs will also be deployed, the spokeswoman said.
Almost 200 emergency services searched for the girl in Bingen on Sunday evening until around midnight, after which the operation initially continued on a smaller scale. The police were particularly concerned about the weather conditions: due to the low temperatures, the danger to the child was very high, said a spokesperson. It was therefore important to intervene quickly.
According to the information provided, the police, fire department and technical relief organization are participating in the large-scale search operation. Because the River Lauchert runs close to the home of the toddler's parents, fire department divers were deployed. The police were initially unable to provide any information on the background to the girl's disappearance.
