- Two women missing in the Rhine - one body found
A woman and a teenager have been missing since Sunday in the Rhine at the German-Swiss border - a body has now been found. It was discovered on Wednesday afternoon along the bank in the area of Reckingen, a district of Küßaberg, as reported by the police. It is likely that it is the missing 15-year-old, but the identity has not yet been confirmed. The investigation continues. The search will be resumed in the next few days.
On Sunday evening, a 29-year-old and a 15-year-old went under in the Rhine at Hohentengen. Both are non-swimmers, according to the police. A joint German-Swiss search operation has been underway since then. Küßaberg in Baden-Württemberg is located in the southernmost part of Germany, right on the border with Switzerland.
According to an earlier police report, six people were at the bank of a tributary to the Rhine on Sunday evening. All were non-swimmers. Preliminary investigations suggest that the group ventured too far into the water, lost their footing, and were swept into the Rhine by the current. Family members who rushed to help were able to rescue four of the six people from the water.
The police are currently aiding in the search efforts for the missing woman and teenager, as they were last seen at Hohentengen near the Rhine. The joint operation was initiated after the incident on Sunday evening, where six non-swimmers, including the two missing individuals, ventured too close to the river.
