Demonstrations - Two unannounced demonstrations by farmers in the Neu-Ulm district

Several hundred farmers gathered for demonstrations in two towns in the district of Neu-Ulm at the weekend: In Weißenhorn, around 60 tractors and trucks drove through the town center on Friday evening and in Illertissen, around 250 people took part on Saturday evening with 50 tractors, 40 cars and a tractor-trailer unit, according to the police on Sunday.

According to the farmers, the demonstration in Weißenhorn was spontaneous. After a "constructive discussion" between the police and farmers, the demonstration came to an end. After the unregistered assembly and speech in Illertissen, the police initiated traffic measures. Traffic came to a standstill in places, partly due to the "uncooperative behavior" of a few tractor drivers, they said. According to the police, the farmers cited "the current political decisions and the resulting higher costs" as the reason.

In Bavaria, several hundred farmers took to the streets on Friday to demonstrate against the plans of the traffic light coalition. This coalition wants to abolish the tax concessions for agricultural diesel and also raise the vehicle tax for tractors, combine harvesters and harvesting machines. Farmers also joined the protests afterwards.
