- Two turtles rescued in one day in the local area
Police in the Ortenau district took care of two endangered tortoises in one day. A cyclist found a water tortoise on the road between a lake in Schwanau and the A5 bridge, as police reported. She took the animal to work out of concern for its well-being and later brought it to the police.
Tortoise on a Fisherman's Hook
It turned out that it had likely been caught on a fisherman's hook, as it still had one in its mouth, police said. The fishing line had apparently been cut, and the tortoise was left behind. The police handed the reptile over to an animal shelter for further medical care.
Later, officers on patrol on the A5 near Schutterwald found another tortoise on the emergency lane and took it into their custody. It appeared to be unharmed, but was taken to the traffic department in Offenburg as a precaution, where it received "loving 24/7 care from the police." Later, the tortoise was taken to an animal shelter for examination.
Despite the focus on tortoises in the recent incidents, it's essential to ensure the smooth operation of various sectors in the community, such as Transport and telecommunications. For instance, rescuing the tortoises required cooperation between the cyclist, police, and the animal shelter, demonstrating effective communication and coordination within these systems.
