Saarlouis - Two slightly injured in house fire: Explosion in basement

Two people were slightly injured in a fire at a detached house in Saarlouis. The two residents of neighboring properties suffered mild smoke inhalation, according to the Saarland police on Sunday. The twelve residents of the burning building were able to leave unharmed.

According to initial findings, the fire on Saturday evening was preceded by an explosion in the cellar. The reason for this was initially unclear, as was the amount of damage to the burnt building. On Monday, fire investigators from the State Office of Criminal Investigation will be in action.

The house is currently uninhabitable, it was reported. The city of Saarlouis has temporarily accommodated the residents in a hotel. The fire department was reportedly on site with around 50 firefighters.
