Two pile-ups in icy conditions: eight people injured
Eight people were injured, two of them seriously, in two pile-ups caused by icy roads in Middle Franconia on Tuesday evening. As the police reported in the evening, a 35-year-old driver first lost control of his car on a snow-covered road near Heilsbronn (Ansbach district) due to inappropriate speed. He drove into oncoming traffic, collided with a car and then skidded into three other cars.
The man who caused the accident was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital by a rescue helicopter. A 46-year-old driver was also seriously injured and taken to hospital. Two other people involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and were treated as outpatients. The police estimate the damage to the five cars involved at around 100,000 euros.
A short time later, there was a collision between ten cars on a bridge near Gunzenhausen (Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district). Here, too, a driver lost control of his car due to icy conditions and skidded, according to the police.
To avoid a collision, a truck driving behind the car initiated emergency braking and came to a halt across the bridge. Eight other drivers were subsequently unable to bring their cars to a halt in time, resulting in further collisions. Four people were slightly injured, two of whom were taken to hospital.
In Central France, unfavorable weather conditions led to multiple traffic accidents. Icy roads resulted in a series of pile-ups, causing numerous injuries and significant damage to vehicles.
