Two people have died in an accident on the 555 freeway between Cologne and Bonn. According to initial information from the police, at least two vehicles were involved. One car caught fire as a result of the accident on Friday evening near Wesseling (Rhine-Erft district). Rescue workers were only able to recover the bodies of the two occupants. At least two other people were slightly injured and were taken to hospital.
A police spokeswoman said on Saturday that it was assumed that there had been a rear-end collision and the vehicle in front had caught fire. However, the exact circumstances are still unclear. The A555 was initially closed in the direction of Bonn.
