Traffic accidents - Two people die in accident on A555
Two people have died in an accident on the 555 freeway between Cologne and Bonn. The two were burned to death in a small car and have not yet been identified, the police announced on Saturday afternoon. The exact cause of the accident late on Friday evening near Wesseling (Rhine-Erft district) is still unclear. What is certain, however, is that two other cars were also damaged.
According to the police, the two other cars apparently involved, each of which was driven by two men in their 20s, had damage to the sides. Damage to the front of one of the cars suggests a collision with the rear of the small car in which the two people burned to death. Traces indicate that the small car spun on the road and caught fire.
One of the drivers initially fled and only turned himself in to the police a short time later. The cell phones of the four young men were confiscated, it was reported. Witnesses are now being sought who witnessed the accident or can say something about the driving style of the other two cars involved.
