German Military Forces - Two more F126 frigates join the German Navy's fleet.

The House of Representatives Committee of the Bundestag has approved the acquisition of two additional F126-class frigates for the German Navy. The defence project carries a budget of three billion euros, according to a meeting held on Wednesday. Marine Inspector Jan Christian Kaack expressed gratitude for the decision, which boosts the naval fleet to six: "Strengthening for our Navy!" he exclaimed. This will allow the navy to deploy warships capable of engaging in submarine warfare in the North Atlantic, securing communication routes at sea, and protecting critical maritime infrastructure.

In December, the construction of the first F126-class frigate commenced. The German military intends to create ships equipped to engage in three-dimensional naval warfare on a global scale. This involves combating targets underwater, on the water, and in the air. Crucial tasks for these frigates include maritime surveillance, enforcing embargoes, aiding special forces, and facilitating evacuation operations. Previously, funding had been secured for four frigates, and now an option for two more vessels has been exercised.

"Today, we have agreed on the biggest procurement for 2024," said FDP Finance Minister Karsten Klein about it. He elaborated: "The new ships will safeguard sea lanes in the entire Atlantic and other European coastal regions. The quantity of the ship fleet we have at our disposal not only meets one of our NATO obligations but also enhances the Bundeswehr as a whole."
