Bundesliga 2 - Two-match ban for Niederlechner after red card

Florian Niederlechner will miss Hertha BSC's first two games of the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga season after being sent off. The sports court of the German Football Association suspended the 33-year-old attacking player for rough play for the match against Fortuna Düsseldorf on January 21 and the match at SV Wehen Wiesbaden the following weekend, which has not yet been precisely scheduled.

Referee Patrick Ittrich had initially shown Niederlechner a yellow card in the 0-0 draw against VfL Osnabrück on Saturday after a kick to the shin of VfL player Lukas Kunze, but decided to send him off after viewing the video footage. Niederlechner subsequently complained vehemently about this and massively criticized the video evidence.

Niederlechner had scored six goals for Berlin in the previous four matchdays. He is eligible to play again on the third matchday of the second half of the season in the top clash against Hamburger SV on the first weekend of February and in any case in the cup quarter-final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on January 31.
