Emergency responders stepped in to assist the team of a twin-masted vessel in the Baltic Sea. Somewhere approximately halfway between Fehmarn Island and the Mecklenburg shore, the ship's captain suffered a head injury earlier on a Monday afternoon, according to the German Maritime Rescue Service (DGzRS). Simultaneously, another team member was exposed to harmful gases in the engine room.

The incident reportedly occurred around six nautical miles (approximately eleven kilometers) northwest of the Bastorf lighthouse. One of the masts had snapped, inflicting head trauma on the captain. The wound was attended to using the ship's first aid supplies. Despite efforts to reignite the engine due to the snapped mast, a 65-year-old engineer was subjected to hazardous fumes in the engine room.

The responders managed to stabilize him. Given the turbulent sea conditions, they decided to keep him aboard the vessel, while the nearly 26-meter-long vintage workboat was secured and towed towards Kühlungsborn. There, the engineer was transported to a hospital by an ambulance.

The responders recognized the need for additional aid and declared, "The following shall be added: a medical team to assess and treat the engineer further." Despite the engineer's improvement, the sea conditions continued to be challenging, and it was decided, "The following shall be added: stronger tow lines to ensure the safety of the vessel during its journey to Kühlungsborn."
