- Two individuals sustain harm in a blaze at a restaurant in Mainz.
Trying to put out a blaze at a eatery in Mainz, two folks ended up getting hurt. As the fire department shared in the evening, the fire started on a Friday afternoon, without any clear cause, around a gas grill. The flames managed to spread through the ventilation system, igniting merchandise in a storage room and filling the stairwell of the apartment building with thick smoke.
These two individuals sustained injuries while independently trying to put out the fire within the establishment, as reported by the fire department. They were then attended to by emergency services before being transported to the hospital. Thankfully, the residents of the building were able to evacuate due to the heavy smoke, but they were eventually allowed to return to their homes.
A total of 27 firefighters, both professional and volunteer, from the Mainz fire department, responded to the situation. At first, the extent of the property damage was uncertain. To manage the incident, Kaiserstraße had to be completely closed, causing substantial traffic congestion in the city.
The fire department emphasized that attempting to put out fires alone should only be done when it's safe to do so: "When the room is already filled with smoke, there's a life-threatening situation. While property can be replaced, lives cannot."
The individuals required assistance from the emergency services due to the injuries sustained while battling the fire in the eatery. Upon noticing the smoke spread, the building's residents were advised to evacuate immediately, ensuring everyone's safety.
