The accused individuals are a 44-year-old female and a 43-year-old male. According to the charges, this duo had been scheming since March 2023 to seize a newborn baby girl and present her as their own child. The 44-year-old reportedly got in touch with a 27-year-old expectant mother via a Telegram group assisting Ukrainian refugees in January 2024.

Once the child was born in February, the accused, as per the charges, plotted to eliminate the 27-year-old and her mother. They allegedly slipped them sedating drugs during a dining outing at a restaurant on March 6.

They then claimed to be transporting the 51-year-old, who supposedly felt unwell, to the hospital. In actuality, they first took the 27-year-old and her newborn baby girl to their residence. The man is said to have murdered the 51-year-old female, the grandmother, by repeatedly hitting her head at a fishing spot in Bad Schönborn. Police divers later discovered her body in the lake.

The man is additionally accused of murdering the 27-year-old in a similar fashion in Hockenheim and then incinerating her corpse. Before setting her body ablaze, the couple reportedly informed the 27-year-old that her mother had suffered a heart attack and was receiving hospital care. Afterwards, the couple brought the infant back to their home.

At present, the accused are in custody. They are being charged with joint murder in two instances and in one case in connection with the abduction of a minor. The Mannheim Regional Court will judge the admissibility of the charges.

The investigators discovered that the accused individuals, a married couple, had been living together in Mannheim. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that they had been secretly planning their new family for quite some time.
