Two goals and a praise: Michaelis seizes his chance

Marc Michaelis made the most of his chance. The German ice hockey international scored two goals in the 5:3 win against Austria. After missing the World Championships due to an operation following a blood clot in his collarbone vein, the forward from Swiss club EV Zug was able to score plenty of points with national coach Harold Kreis. "Everyone has to prove themselves here. It was very important that I was here," said the 28-year-old after his second appearance at the Germany Cup. With another win on Sunday (2.30 pm/Magentasport) against Slovakia, the runners-up can no longer be denied another tournament victory in Landshut.

However, the DEB team struggled for a long time against Austria. The Kreis team was 2-0 down and only improved in the middle of the second period. Michaelis scored two goals to equalize and give them new momentum. Munich's Filip Varejcka and Yasin Ehliz finally turned the match around with their goals. "A good team always finds a way to win," said coach Kreis and praised the forward line around Michaelis and Ehliz: "The boys turned it on."

The 64-year-old national coach will also make a few changes to his team in the final game against Slovakia. Munich's Ehliz and Varejcka already left for home on Saturday evening. They will play in the Champions Hockey League on Wednesday. Michaelis will also miss out. Only Alexander Ehl (Düsseldorfer EG) and Tobias Eder (Eisbären Berlin) will play in all three games.

Michaelis' impressive performance in ice hockey continued, as he scored two goals to help the DEB team overcome a 2-0 deficit against Austria. Coach Kreis praised the forward line, specifically mentioning Michaelis and Ehliz, for turning the match around.
