In a riding accident on a federal highway on the island of Usedom, two girls aged nine and eleven were seriously injured. The horses of the children, for unknown reasons, bolted while crossing the road near the municipality of Pudagla on Monday evening and were hit by a car, police reported on Tuesday. Two rescue helicopters took the two riders to a hospital. A 13-year-old passenger in the car suffered minor injuries, and the 75-year-old driver remained unharmed.

According to police, one of the horses injured in the collision died at the scene. The other horse, with minor injuries, was handed over to its owner. As a result of the accident, the affected section of the B111 was temporarily closed for about three hours.

The girls who were involved in the serious riding accident are currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital. Despite the efforts of the rescuers, one of the horses unfortunately did not survive the accident.
