The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. The total closure of the A8 in the direction of Munich from the Adelzhausen junction was expected to last into the morning.

Highway 99, the Munich eastern bypass, was also closed. The cause here was a mass accident involving 13 vehicles in the Aschheim area in the northbound direction, also in black ice. According to the police, there were three accidents in the southbound direction, which is why this direction also had to be temporarily closed.

The severe onset of winter has been causing massive restrictions in Munich and the surrounding area for several days. There were no take-offs and landings at Munich Airport on Tuesday morning. Rail traffic is still restricted - there are no long-distance services from Munich to Salzburg, Innsbruck, Lindau and Zurich.
