Fatal accident - Two fatalities in head-on collision near Petershagen

After a frontal collision on a well-developed country road in Petershagen-Friedewalde, East Westphalia, with two fatalities, the cause of the accident is still unclear. A clear sequence of events has not been determined yet, said a police spokesperson today. There were no witnesses.

During the collision on Saturday afternoon, a man and a woman had lost their lives. The 64-year-old man, according to initial police findings, had swerved off his lane to the left and entered the oncoming traffic. There, he collided frontally with the car of a 79-year-old woman from Minden.

First responders extracted the accident victims from their vehicles, reported the police. Paramedics began with resuscitations. A rescue helicopter was also in operation. However, both victims died at the scene of the accident.

The L770, an important regional road connection between Osnabrück and Hannover, was closed during the recovery work for several hours until evening.
