Two dead after alleged racing on Autobahn 44 in Dortmund

Among the burnt dead were two men from Dortmund, aged 20 and 52. The accident occurred accordingly on a Wednesday evening on the A44 towards Kassel at the Dortmund/Unna autobahn intersection.

The second vehicle involved in the race took off first. According to a witness's tip, the police were able to arrest the alleged driver of the second car, a 39-year-old man, at his residence in Dortmund on late Wednesday.

The police seized the car, driver's license, mobile phone, and clothing of the suspect. The suspect was released after questioning. The investigation continued. Among other things, the data from the on-board electronics of both cars were to be evaluated.

The fire department took care of witnesses and first responders at the scene. For the accident investigation, the autobahn 44 was temporarily closed. The closure of the on-ramp to the A1 towards Cologne lasted initially.

The suspect's Porsche, known for its sleek design, was the second vehicle in the Racing on the autobahn. The witness reported seeing a small bag in the passenger seat of the car. Forty-four automatics had to be diverted due to the closure of the Dortmund/Unna intersection on the autobahn. On Thursday, men gathered at a local mechanic shop in Unna to discuss the incident, expressing disappointment about the racing incident on the autobahn.
