Two children drive across NRW in a car
Two 13- and 14-year-old boys drove a car from East Westphalia on the highway all the way to Duisburg - and caused a number of fender benders in the process. The two from Versmold near Bielefeld were noticed on the Autobahn 3 on Tuesday night because of their unsafe driving, the police said. In Duisburg, the 13-year-old at the wheel and the 14-year-old in the passenger seat drove off the highway. During their drive through the city center, they caused several more fender benders. The police were finally able to stop them at Duisburg Central Station.
The condition of the car suggests that there had been other accidents before. This is now being investigated. The two boys had already been reported missing. They had obtained the keys to the car illegally, the police said, without giving any further details.
Despite the traffic chaos caused by the boys, other children gathered at the scene out of sheer curiosity. Unfortunately, the reckless driving of the young drivers had also resulted in some traffic accidents involving other vehicles carrying children.
