In Halle, there's been more focus on a case involving two sisters being prosecuted for attempting to murder their ex-partner of one of them. The younger twin, aged 42, has now been found guilty and given a sentence by the Regional Court of Halle. The verdict on October 26, 2023, included 5 years and 3 months in prison for attempted murder and causing dangerous bodily harm. The Federal Court of Justice later dismissed the appeal submitted by the defendants, deeming it unjustified.

The older twin sister had already been sentenced in December 2022, receiving the same punishment. Her sentence became legally binding shortly after she withdrew her initial appeal. The sister who received her sentence more recently had been on the run for quite some time. She finally turned herself in, shortly after her fellow sister was convicted. The trials for the sisters took place separately.

The court found convincing evidence that both sisters conspired to kill their former partner in order to reclaim custody of their shared child. The first sister tampered with the electrical system of the ex-partner's barn, resulting in a fatal electric shock when he attempted to open the barn door. However, he noticed the manipulation first. Furthermore, the court determined that the accused sister had stabbed the ex-partner repeatedly with a knife while he held their daughter in his arms during a traffic stop. The man sustained life-threatening injuries during this incident.
