- Turtle Found in Rings
A passerby discovered a turtle in Rinteln (Schaumburg district). The reptile was sitting peacefully in the grass when it caught the attention of the pedestrian, the police reported. The location of the find is south of the Sassenberg quarry ponds.
Alerted police took the aquatic turtle into their care and later brought it to the wildlife and species protection station in Sachsenhagen, where it is now living temporarily. How the reptile got to the ponds remains unclear. However, it is certain that it is not a native species, the police reported.
The police released a statement, mentioning that they found other non-native fish in the same ponds where the turtle was found. During its stay at the wildlife station, the turtle showed interest in these other fish.
