EM - Turkish fans in Berlin celebrate reaching the round of 16
Many fans of the Turkish football national team celebrated the entry into the EURO 2024 round of 16 in Berlin. After the grueling 2:1 win against Czechia in Hamburg on Wednesday evening, many people in the capital took to the streets jubilantly. On Kurfürstendamm in Charlottenburg, there was the traditional car procession. The police reported around 300 participants. The fans had Turkish flags with them and, according to observers, had also set off pyrotechnics. In the later hours of the night from Wednesday to Thursday, there was a bottle throw at law enforcement officers. A police officer was lightly injured.
Immediately after the final whistle, there was a fireworks display in Kreuzberg. On Yorckstraße, cars were still driving loudly towards midnight, often with Turkish flags adorned and blasting loud music.
For Turkey, the quarterfinals of the EURO 2024 are on Tuesday (21.00 hours) in Leipzig against Austria. In the Berlin Olympic Stadium, Switzerland and Italy will play against each other on Saturday evening (18.00 hours) for a place in the semifinals.
