Champions League - Tuchel's "extremely bitter" Gnabry prognosis
Coach Thomas Tuchel expects FC Bayern Munich international Serge Gnabry to make his comeback in February at the earliest. The 28-year-old attacker will miss the end of the year and the start of the 2024 European Championship following his next injury, which he sustained in the 5-1 defeat in Frankfurt.
"I'm afraid it will be at least eight weeks, eight weeks plus. We'll have to see how good his heal is," said Tuchel ahead of Tuesday evening's Champions League game at Manchester United. "That's far too long, of course," the coach commented on Gnabry's next break. "It took him a long time to get back into shape after his arm injury. He was back in form in training now of all times and then got injured in the first minute of his appearance in Frankfurt. That's extremely bitter," said Tuchel.
Gnabry suffered a muscle tendon injury in the left adductor area shortly after coming on as a substitute in Frankfurt last weekend. He will miss at least seven of Bayern 's competitive matches before a possible return in February.
The attacker's European Championship season has been frustrating so far, both at club level and with the national team. He has hardly featured at FC Bayern against his rivals Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané. In September and October, the professional was also out of action for several weeks due to a broken forearm.
Gnabry only played in five league games, three of them from the start. He has yet to score a goal. In the previous season, the attacking player contributed 14 goals and seven assists to Munich's next league title.
