National team - Tuchel on the Kroos question: "Exclusively a matter for Julian"
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel does not want to talk German coach Julian Nagelsmann into Toni Kroos' comeback under any circumstances. "Thank God that's not my topic," said Tuchel amusedly on Tuesday. "It's also far too early to talk about the squad and if we do, it's exclusively up to Julian. I think he'll thank me if I don't say anything about it, because the more people speak out, the more difficult it will be for him. He has to make the decision in the end." The fewer coaches who comment on the case, "the better for Julian, which is why I'm holding back."
Germany coach Nagelsmann recently described a Kroos return as an "interesting thought" in the ZDF "Sportstudio" and added: "You have to think about all players who have a German passport, I think that's my job." However, Nagelsmann revealed that he had not yet spoken to the 2014 world champion about the matter.
The 33-year-old Kroos has been one of the key players in the Real Madrid team since 2014, but is no longer a full-time player. He won the Champions League four times with the Whites, having also triumphed in the top flight with Bayern in 2013. His contract with Real expires in the summer.
According to Bild, Kroos can reportedly imagine a comeback for the home European Championship. The midfield star had originally ended his career in the DFB team in 2021 after the round of 16 exit at the European Championship after 106 international matches. The decision was irrevocable, he said at the time.
