Tuchel after red for Sané: Has my full protection

Thomas Tuchel does not dwell on the DFB disappointments. The Bayern environment should help Sané, Kimmich & Co. But he also provides an explanation for the national team's frustration.

Tuchel after red for Sané: Has my full protection

Thomas Tuchel does not expect Leroy Sané's red card for the national team to have any impact on FC Bayern Munich's performance. "We're not going to get caught up in the analysis of the national team and the DFB. That's not our responsibility," said the coach of the German serial soccer champions on the day before the Bundesliga away game at penultimate-placed 1 FC Cologne on Friday (20:30/DAZN). Tuchel will have to do without Matthijs de Ligt and Jamal Musiala after injuries.

"We are trying to create an environment in which the players feel comfortable, can be positive and recharge their batteries," said the 50-year-old. The German internationals had returned to the club with a lot of frustration after two defeats. This is probably especially true for Sané, who was red-carded in the 2-0 defeat in Austria, and Joshua Kimmich, who was initially on the bench.

Full confidence in Sané and Kimmich

"Leroy has my full trust and protection," said Tuchel on Thursday. Normally the attacking player has himself under control, but this time he saw the red card coming as a TV viewer, said Tuchel. Sané is just as key a player at FC Bayern as Kimmich. Especially in phases when it is difficult for players, the environment is important.

Regardless of the successes of the national players from different countries, the feedback from the selection coaches is that the top players are "tired, mentally tired, emotionally tired, exhausted, physically tired", said Tuchel. The European Championship in the summer and more matches in the Champions League could make things even worse.

Criticism of the match calendar - and a warning

"If it's not in the interests of the players, it can't be in the interests of the game. People want to see the best play, want to see them play soccer with joy and desire and an ease," said Tuchel. "With the calendar and the fixtures, that's at the absolute limit - if not beyond it." FC Bayern play on Friday evening, for example, while in England the top match between Manchester City and Liverpool FC is played on Saturday lunchtime.

Despite Leroy Sané's red card with the national team, Tuchel maintains his full trust and protection for the FC Bayern Munich player. In the upcoming Bundesliga game against 1st FC Cologne, Sané will once again be a crucial player for the German champions. Furthermore, the manager expressed confidence in Joshua Kimmich, who also returned from the national team with some frustration.
