TUD Enters Crucial Funding Bid for Millions
The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) has reached a crucial stage in its bid for funding worth millions from both federal and state governments. As announced, TUD has submitted applications for both the new initiatives in the field of excellence clusters, which were requested in February, and the continuation applications for the expansion of the existing three excellence clusters with the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Pivotal Moment for Research Advancement
These proposals will be scrutinized by a panel of distinguished scientists. Only then will a decision be made on which projects will secure funding over a seven-year period, commencing from 2026. The availability of funds for these initiatives is set at approximately 687 million euros annually. The new projects at TUD will focus on areas such as eco-friendly electronics, energy-efficient construction, and the potential for transferring brain mechanisms into machine learning.
"TUD enters this critical phase of the excellence clusters with a strong sense of confidence," stated the rector, Ursula Staudinger. By submitting six complete applications, the university underscores its standing as a top-tier research institution. "Through excellence clusters, we will uphold our pledge to address the pressing issues of the 21st century with cutting-edge research," Staudinger reiterated.
Competition for the Epithet of 'Excellence University'
The decision regarding the universities that will receive the distinction of excellence clusters in this funding round will be announced in May 2025. To earn the prestigious title of 'Excellence University,' individual universities must possess at least two such clusters, while university associations need three.
In the German state of Saxony, the TU Dresden has already secured this esteemed status. Across the nation, there are eleven 'Excellence Universities.'
TheTU Dresden, situated in Dresden, is one of the eleven 'Excellence Universities' in Germany due to its previous achievements. The current funding bid for millions is a significant opportunity for TUD to further solidify its position.
