Art exhibition - "Trust Memory Over History" by Firelei Báez in Wolfsburg
The Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg will exhibit the vibrant, large-format paintings of Firelei Báez starting from Saturday. The title of the exhibition is "Trust Memory Over History," featuring the dynamic compositions of the Haitian-born and New York-based artist. The figures in her fictional worlds blend headless creatures that magically transform between human, plant, and animal, shimmering hair, colorful feathers, bright fruits, and robust palms. Thus, Báez contrasts the powerful chapters of world history with beauty and joy, as described by the museum for her art. Her spectrum ranges from Caribbean culture to Science-Fiction, art and natural history, colonialism, migration, life in the diaspora, racism, or gender issues. Following the acquisition of a Báez installation in 2018, her first solo museum exhibition in Germany can be seen until October 13. The works were compiled in cooperation with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.
