Back in late April, President Joe Biden signed a bill that states TikTok will be illegal in the US if ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, fails to sell the app within a year. Both ByteDance and TikTok have filed a lawsuit against the ultimatum in early May.

The US government has accused ByteDance of using TikTok to spy on users on behalf of the Chinese government for several years. TikTok disputes these claims and says they've restructured to ensure US user data stays in the US.

The app is widely used and has around 170 million users in the US. Globally, over a billion people use this platform.

Trump had been pushing for ByteDance to lose control over the app during his presidency, yet he's now taken a 180° turn and opposes a US ban on TikTok. He's a Republican candidate running against Biden in the upcoming presidential elections in November.
