Trump reacts shocked to shots during his campaign rally
I knew something was off right away, as I heard a hissing noise, gunshots, and instantly felt the bullet pierce through my skin," explained Trump on his online platform Truth Social.
The incident occurred in the US state of Pennsylvania, while Trump was just starting his speech on the stage in the small town of Butler. After the shots, officers from the Secret Service pulled him to the ground. Following this, the former President was escorted off the stage with a defiant fist and taken to safety.
Trump's campaign team later announced that the 78-year-old former President was doing well and would be examined in a local medical facility. Earlier, the Secret Service, responsible for the protection of sitting and former US Presidents, had reported that Trump was safe and the investigations were ongoing.
According to Secret Service reports, a spectator at the rally was killed and two others were seriously injured. The alleged shooter was "neutralized", confirmed the Secret Service in media reports about the death of the alleged attacker.
The gathering was Trump's last campaign rally before the Republican Party convention, which begins on Monday and officially nominates Trump as the Presidential candidate of the party. The US Presidential election takes place on November 5.
In the aftermath of the incident, Trump's election campaign event in Pennsylvania was abruptly halted. Despite the distressing events, Trump asserted his resolve upon returning to his online platform, vowing to continue his US-President campaign. Regrettably, a spectator at the rally lost their life due to the shots fired during the event.
