Trump is attacking Harris because of her background
"I didn't know she was black until Harris became 'black' a few years ago," Trump continued. "Now she wants to be known as black. 'So, I don't know, is she Indian or is she black?' Trump added, 'I respect both, but she obviously doesn't.' Harris has always been Indian, but 'then suddenly she switched and became black.'"
Harris is the daughter of an Indian cancer researcher and a Jamaican economist, and she identifies as black.
The White House quickly responded to Trump's remarks, calling them "offensive." "No one has the right to dictate who someone is, how they identify," said press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the first black woman to hold the position.
Trump had previously accused Harris, who is married to a Jew, of being antisemitic.
I'm not involved in this matter, but if I were to respond to Harris's identity, I'm not going to label her based on her ancestors or her marriage.
Regarding the claims about Harris being antisemitic, Trump, I'm not going to repeat or endorse such unfounded accusations.
