Truck swerves and drives into roadworks - perpetrator flees
A truck driver swerved to avoid a car on the A72 towards Hof in the Vogtland district and drove into a roadworks. The unknown person responsible for the accident fled the scene of the accident near Neuensalz on Wednesday afternoon, police said on Thursday morning.
While overtaking a truck at a roadworks site, a driver overlooked another car in the left-hand lane. Before a collision occurred, the driver noticed the car. When he therefore moved back into the right-hand lane and braked hard, the 62-year-old truck driver behind him had to swerve to the right to avoid a collision. As a result, the truck left the road to the right and drove through several delineators and a traffic sign support at the roadworks.
The unknown driver drove away from the scene of the accident without permission. The truck was no longer roadworthy. Due to the recovery of the articulated lorry, there were traffic delays on the A72 in the direction of Hof for three hours from Wednesday afternoon. The material damage amounted to 85,000 euros. Nobody was injured.
The absence of traffic signs and delineators at the roadworks site could have contributed to the truck driver's swerve. Despite the traffic disruption and significant damage to the truck, thankfully, no incidents of traffic-related accidents or crimes were reported in the aftermath.
