One seriously injured - Truck plunges several meters - driver dies
A truck loaded with gravel has crashed through several meters into the depth of a ramp leading to the Europa Bridge in Koblenz. The 35-year-old driver later died in the hospital due to his severe injuries, according to the police. The truck came off the road on the B9 bridge and broke through the guardrail. It remained overturned four to five meters deep on a ramp of the bridge.
The police also reported that a small van was damaged, which was driving on the ramp at the time. However, its driver remained unharmed. The truck hit the small van in the rear.
The ramp leading out of the city towards the Europa Bridge was closed for several hours as a result of the accident. Traffic on the B9 in the direction of the north was also running one-lane only for a while. The cause of the accident must still be determined. It cannot be ruled out that it was a medical emergency of the truck driver.
The accident on the Europa Bridge in Koblenz resulted in significant traffic disruptions, as the ramp leading out of the city was closed for several hours. This caused traffic on the B9 in the northbound direction to operate on a single lane. The incident was not just limited to the truck, as a small van parked on the ramp was also slightly damaged due to the impact. Despite the severity of the accident, the driver of the van managed to escape unharmed. Following the incident, authorities are investigating whether the truck driver's traffic violations or a medical emergency could have contributed to the accidents involving the truck and the van on the Europe Bridge in Rhineland-Palatinate, near Koblenz at the Europe Bridge.
