Traffic - Truck fire on A5: full closure
A truck fire on the A5 near Karlsruhe caused a temporary closure on Saturday. The highway was initially fully blocked between the Karlsruhe interchange and the Karlsruhe-Mitte exit in the northbound direction for firefighting efforts. Later, traffic was routed single-file past the truck. There were traffic jams that persisted into the early afternoon.
According to the fire department, the fire started from a refrigerated truck loaded with foodstuffs on Saturday morning. The truck then caught fire fully. No one was harmed by the fire.
Since the police first received a report of a truck with burning tires, the officers suspect that a technical defect caused the fire. A police spokesperson could not provide an estimate of the damage cost upon inquiry.
The fire event took place on a highway in Baden-Württemberg, specifically near Karlsruhe. The extinguishing work required a full closure of the roadway in the northbound direction between the Karlsruhe interchange and the Karlsruhe-Mitte exit. The local police were involved in managing the traffic situation during the incident. Despite the truck fire and the subsequent traffic disruptions, no injuries were reported.
