A truck driver has been caught in Unna near Dortmund with the driver card of a deceased person at the wheel of his articulated lorry. As the police reported on Tuesday, the 53-year-old used several driver cards in an attempt to cover up his driving and rest period violations.

A truck driver has been caught in Unna near Dortmund with the driver card of a deceased person at the wheel of his articulated lorry. As the police reported on Tuesday, the 53-year-old used several driver cards in an attempt to cover up his driving and rest period violations.

The electronic driver cards show the exact driving and rest times of truck drivers and are intended to prevent them from being on the roads for longer than permitted.

The fraud was discovered during an inspection on Friday. According to the incident report, one of the cards belonged to a man who had died several months previously, while another was assigned to the driver's wife. How the man obtained the deceased's document is still being investigated. The police initiated criminal proceedings.
