Volcanic Eifel - Truck damages houses in narrow street and gets stuck
A truck driver has driven his articulated lorry into a road that was too narrow in a town in the Vulkaneifel region of Rhineland-Palatinate and damaged several houses. The truck left damage to roofs and facades on Monday and tore down garden fences and gutters, according to the police on Tuesday. A navigation device had led the driver to the road in the municipality of Walsdorf, which is unsuitable for trucks, they said. Despite attempts by local residents to stop him with hand signals, he initially drove on. The truck caused damage over a distance of 200 meters before getting stuck in a bend.
The police estimate the damage at around 45,000 euros. A towing company later pulled the blocked articulated lorry free. The 61-year-old driver is now under investigation.
