Process - Trial: Woman allegedly set thugs on ex-boyfriend

At the Cologne Regional Court, the public prosecutor's office has been charging a 25-year-old woman with incitement to dangerous bodily harm since Thursday. According to the indictment, she is said to have ordered four men to beat up her ex-partner in March. The woman's anger over the "non-consensual separation" and jealousy are said to have been the background. "It was important to her that the injured party was injured", the indictment stated. The accused had promised the perpetrators financial reward for this, said the public prosecutor.

On the night of March 27, the alleged contract beaters are said to have ambushed the man in front of the train station in Cologne-Deutz and punched and kicked him. The victim allegedly fell to the ground and was kicked for around 18 seconds. As the man "lay unconscious and motionless on the ground", one of the perpetrators is said to have kicked him several times in the head and face. One of the four men is said to have been identified in the meantime.

A police officer reported in the witness box that a woman had witnessed the crime. The 25-year-old explained that the witness had testified how one of the perpetrators had "stomped" on the victim's head. The ex-partner, who is a co-plaintiff, is said to have suffered serious facial injuries and a fractured lumbar vertebra. The man was taken to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was temporarily in a coma, according to the indictment.

The accused woman initially gave no details of the allegations. The trial at the district court is scheduled to last eight trial days until January 24, 2024.
