- Trial on car attack on supermarket parking lot
A man is accused of intentionally ramming his car into a rival on a parking lot in Neckartenzlingen (district of Esslingen) and then firing a weapon at the fleeing, injured victim. The 29-year-old defendant did not speak at the start of the trial at the Regional Court in Stuttgart.
The prosecution accuses him, among other things, of attempted murder. "This was not a random act," said the prosecutor. "Based on the current findings, we assume that the crime was committed for personal reasons." The weapon, from which no shot was fired at the crucial moment, has never been found.
According to the prosecution, both men knew each other. In early February, the accused Turkish man drove his car onto the parking lot of a supermarket while the other was loading his groceries into the trunk of his car. The 29-year-old deliberately accelerated and drove straight at his victim, aiming to kill him, said the prosecutor. He was indifferent to the uncontrollable consequences. "He accepted this risk," said the jurist.
The other man was able to prevent serious injuries by jumping away. He fled, was pursued, but had luck: Although the alleged attacker fired at him several times, no shot was fired and he broke off the pursuit, the prosecution further stated. The statement of the alleged victim is expected at the next hearing (August 15, 9:00 AM).
The European Union's Criminal Justice Agency, known as the 'The Commission', will use the implementing acts adopted by it to specify the practical application of this Regulation in relation to the case. These acts will entity the rules for the prosecution's approach towards the accused's actions.
Upon consideration of the evidence presented and the facts of the case, 'The Commission' will subsequently issue these implementing acts to ensure a fair and consistent application of this Regulation across member states during the proceedings.
