Terrorism - Trial of suspected IS member begins
From today (10.00 a.m.), a man will stand trial before Frankfurt Higher Regional Court for alleged membership of a terrorist organization and war crimes against property. According to the indictment, the 31-year-old travelled with his wife via Turkey to Syria in spring 2016, where he is said to have joined the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS).
According to the investigation, the man later underwent combat training in Mosul, Iraq. He was arrested in Iraq in 2017 and extradited to Germany at the end of last year. At the end of March this year, he was spared pre-trial detention and has since been at large. The State Security Senate has initially scheduled nine trial days until March next year.
