Cologne Regional Court - Trial: Man allegedly hid body in manhole

A 41-year-old man allegedly killed a man with a knife in March and then placed the body in a manhole and covered it with grit. From Tuesday, the 41-year-old will stand trial for manslaughter at Cologne District Court. In addition to a guilty verdict and a conviction, the trial could also result in his permanent placement in a psychiatric ward.

On March 11, the accused and the later victim allegedly got into an argument. The later victim is said to have asked the 41-year-old to leave his apartment, to which the accused is said to have reacted with kicks and punches. He is also said to have kicked the victim several times in the face and head, causing him to lose consciousness. The 41-year-old is said to have stabbed the unconscious man several times in the back and neck with a knife. The man is said to have died due to the high blood loss.

The accused then allegedly took the body with a wheelbarrow to a manhole on a nearby country road, placed it there and covered it with chippings. The body was discovered a short time later by a passer-by. The trial is scheduled for ten trial days until the end of January 2024.
