Tiergarten Courthouse - Trial involving Zverev: charge of inflicting physical injury

A trial over German tennis star Alexander Zverev's alleged assault of his previous girlfriend commences today, set in Berlin. The allegations detail Zverev attacking the woman in Berlin back in May 2020 while they argued. Thus, he stands to pay a hefty fine of 450,000 euros (which equates to 90 daily fines of 5,000 euros) for inflicting physical injury. The athlete denies these claims and has pursued an appeal. As a result, the trial will be brought forth at the Amtsgericht Tiergarten.

Notably, Zverev won't personally attend the hearing as he's currently taking part in the French Open in Paris, the year's second Grand Slam tournament. He won his second clash there on Thursday.

Zverev's accuser, Brenda Patea, who was on the TV show "Germany's Next Topmodel" in 2017, is listed as a co-plaintiff. As it stands, ten trial days have been planned with the final one on July 19. A few days ahead of the tournament, Zverev remarked, "In the end, I trust the German legal system and believe in the truth. (...) I believe that I won't lose this proceeding. There's no way I could lose."
