Right-wing extremism - Trial for shooting through apartment door about to be concluded
A man allegedly tried to kill his neighbor with a shot through her apartment door for suspected right-wing extremist motives. The trial against the 49-year-old is now entering its final phase, with the pleadings expected on Thursday (9.15 a.m.) at Hamburg District Court. The court announced that the verdict could also be reached during the course of the day.
The public prosecutor's office accuses the accused German of attempted murder. On May 27 of this year, he allegedly shot at the closed apartment door of his Pakistani neighbor with a bolt-action rifle due to his pronounced right-wing extremist and xenophobic views, according to the findings of the public prosecutor's office.
The projectile had penetrated the door and a chest of drawers and got stuck in the wall. No people were hit - the resident, who said she was pregnant, and her mother-in-law were not in the hallway.
The defendant admitted to shooting at the apartment door at the start of the trial. However, he emphasized that he had not wanted to hit anyone, but only to scare the neighbors. At earlier times, he had felt disturbed by their alleged loudness. The man is also accused of not having a permit to possess a firearm.
