Radicalism or fanaticism in beliefs, especially involving social, political, or religious views - Trial for right-wing extremist Liebich takes place in Halle.

At 9:30 am today, right-wing extremist Sven Liebich will appear before the District Court in Halle for an appeal hearing. His sentencing in July 2023 by the Magistrates' Court of Saalestadt for incitement to hatred and slander landed him a year and six months imprisonment without probation. Both the prosecution and Liebich's defense team appealed this decision. This court process is expected to last for six days up until June 28th.

Liebich has faced numerous legal proceedings for years, with a particular judgment from the District Court in Halle being enforced. Back in October, the court found him guilty of defamation of persons in political life and incitement to hatred, and as a result, he was sentenced to ten months' imprisonment on probation. Currently, there's no enforceable prison sentence against Livebich.

The appeal procedure for Liebich's sentencing is set to take place in the Regional Court of Saxony-Anhalt, due to both parties appealing the initial decision made by the Magistrates' Court of Saalestadt. If the Regional Court upholds the initial sentence, Liebich could face an extended imprisonment beyond his current year and six months sentence. This case highlights the ongoing legal processes against right-wing extremists in Germany. Regardless of the outcome, the appeal process will contribute significantly to the ongoing battle against extremism in the Local Court of Halle.
