Murder of women - Trial for ex-lover in connection to dead woman found in the canal
A trial concerning a man accused of murdering his lover a decade ago and dumping her body in a canal is still not responding to schedule. The Hamburg District Court has revealed that more court dates have been scheduled up until August due to ongoing evidence submissions. No decision has yet been made on the admissibility of the evidence. The trial for the 44-year-old man has been in process since April 2023. He is charged with manslaughter.
As per the indictment, this man, originated from Hamburg, is accused of having infuriated his then 28-year-old lover, who demanded money from him and threatened to reveal his affair to his family. She also desired to expose the fact he owned a brothel. In the initial appearance of the trial more than a year ago, the accused had his lawyer refute the allegations.
The 28-year-old victim vanished from her surroundings in Wilhelmsburg in early March 2013. At first, police assumed she had returned to her home country. Then, they speculated it could be a murder case. The authorities circulated her photo and posted flyers to find the missing woman. Eventually, the police arrested her ex-lover. A sharp weapon was uncovered during a raid of his auto workshop.
The court charged him with manslaughter in the past. However, the court had not yet determined the legality of the indictment and the trial's opening, as an extensive search for her body by the police was unsuccessful. The man was thus released again in April 2014 due to inadequate suspicion.
In mid-January 2023, a fisherman encountered the first bones in the Hamburg Ernst-August Canal. Later, police divers scrutinized under a railway bridge in the water, looking for additional remains. The former lover of the victim was incarcerated again, as he entered the Hamburg airport at the beginning of February.
