Trial for double murder in Wennigsen: verdict final
The conviction of a 24-year-old man for the double murder of a married couple from Wennigsen near Hanover is final. The appeal against the guilty verdict was rejected by the responsible senate, the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe announced on Tuesday regarding the corresponding decision from November 14. The verdict of the Hanover Regional Court had withstood legal review. Following the violent death of the 59-year-old car mechanic and his wife, who was one year older than him, the regional court had sentenced the Iraqi, who was 24 years old at the time of the crime, to life imprisonment in April.
The couple had been stabbed to death in their home in the Holtensen district in June 2022. The 24-year-old had bought the 59-year-old's car repair shop the year before, but was soon no longer able to meet his various financial obligations. In order to get rid of his creditors and in the hope of obtaining the cash he knew was hidden in the couple's apartment, he used a pretext to gain access to the apartment and killed the couple. The court found the motives for the murder to be greed and malice aforethought and also established the particular gravity of the guilt. The accused had denied the crime.
The rejection of the appeal highlights the finality of the 24-year-old's life sentence for the double murder, marking the end of the formal crime processes. The detailed judgments outlined the motives behind the violent acts as greed and malice aforethought, contributing to the severity of the sentences.
